Leeds United have been active on the final day of the loan transfer window, bringing in midfielder Liam Bridcutt on loan from Sunderland until the start of January.

However, the Championship club failed on two fronts in an attempt to bolster their attacking options, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that the Whites had missed out on the signings of Middlesbrough forward Kike and Swansea City's Marvin Emnes, coincidentally a former Middlesbrough player himself.

Bridcutt goes in search of first-team football

26-year-old Bridcutt is yet to make an appearance for Sunderland this season after turning out 24 times for the Wearsiders last term, and does not appear to be a part of manager Sam Allardyce's immediate plans.

He joins as new Leeds manager Steve Evans' first signing at Elland Road since taking the reigns at the end of October following the dismissal of former boss Uwe Rösler.

Bridcutt will not link up with fellow Black Cat Will Buckley in the second tier, however, with the winger returning to the Stadium of Light having been recalled from his own loan stint with Leeds.

Karanka keeps hold of Kike

Despite Bridcutt's signing, though, Evans is unlikely to be totally satisfied with his day's business having missed out on two attacking targets.

Spanish forward Kike, who turned 26 on Wednesday, is third in the pecking order at Leeds' rivals Middlesbrough behind David Nugent and Cristhian Stuani despite a prolific start to the season.

Yet, Boro boss Aitor Karanka was unwilling to leave himself with just two senior strikers to call upon, assuring fans in a press conference this morning that no senior players would be leaving the club on loan.

Emnes to remain in Wales

Meanwhile, Emnes too apparently slipped through Leeds' fingers before the 5PM deadline, despite the Dutchman having made only one appearance for Swansea this season.

The Whites will therefore have to make do with their current squad until the January transfer window, starting this weekend away to Queens Park Rangers.
