Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League in the past day or so, with reports suggesting that former manager Harry Redknapp interested in bringing the England forward to his current club QPR. Newcastle are also interested in his services with the loss of French striker Loic Remy after his successful loan spell last season, with fresh news being announced that Toronto had sacked manager Ryan Nelsen after a poor run of results.

Both clubs are in need of a striker, and Defoe could do a real job for them. He has been clinical in his spell at Toronto in the MLS, which is unsurprising given his blistering pace and eye for goal at the age of 31 with something to prove to try and get back into the international squad with England. More news developments to follow as we get it here on VAVEL.

According to reports, Defoe is already in the country and is ready to sign for a Premier League club - with the MLS season finishing next month.
