Michael Hector has signed a new three-year deal at Reading.

The 22-year-old, who joined Reading from Thurrock in 2009, has committed his future to the Royals till at least 2018.

Hector is fans favourite at Reading and came in the top three in the fans' Player of the Year award.

Speaking to the club's website, Hector said: "It’s a really positive step for me to sign another deal at Reading and to know that you’re wanted by the manager and the club, it's a great feeling.

"This is a proud moment for me and my family."

Manager Steve Clarke said, "Since I came to the club in December 2014, Michael's performances have improved almost from game to game. For a young defender to show such consistency of performance is great to see."

Hector will now travel to Chile where he will compete for Jamaica in the Copa America along with Reading team-mate Gareth McCleary.
