Wigan Athletic are set to sign winger Michael Jacobs from Wolverhampton Wanderers after having a bid accepted.

Speaking to the club's official website, Wolves manager Kenny Jackett said “We’ve accepted a bid from Wigan in League One, If that does go through, we wish him all the best and hope it goes well at his new club.”

The fee for Jacobs is unknown but Jackett has confirmed the offer is a "very good" one which has been made by Wigan to sign the 23-year old winger.

Jacobs moved up the Football League

Jacobs started his career at Northampton Town before moving to Derby County, going on to play more than 40 times for the Rams. During his second season at Derby he joined Wolves on loan before making the move permanent, and he contributed eight goals in their League One title-winning campaign two seasons ago.

Latics boss Gary Caldwell see Jacobs as a direct replacement for Martyn Waghorn, who has departed the DW Stadium for Rangers along with fellow teammate James Tavernier. Caldwell sees Jacobs playing the same role as Waghorn, which was just off the striker and feeding balls through to the man up top.

A busy summer of recruitment for Wigan

Should Jacobs join the Latics he'll become the clubs 10th summer signing following the arrivals of Donervon Daniels from West Brom, Craig Morgan from Rotherham United, David Perkins from Blackpool, Richard O'Donnell from Walsall, Max Power from Tranmere Rovers, Sanmi Odelusi and Craig Davies from Bolton Wanderers, Will Grigg from Brentford and Reece James from Manchester United.

It is understood that Jacobs has already agreed personal terms and just needs to pass a medical, which has been set for Monday afternoon, before he completes his transfer.

Latics fans will be hoping Jacobs' experience of success in the third division will come in handy in the new season, as they look to bounce straight back to the Championship at the first attempt.
