Liverpool failed to find a way past Hull as they dominated the game but just couldn't find the breakthrough against The Tigers.

Liverpool dominated the first half, but they started perhaps on the backfoot, Hull started brightly and held the better of the ball, but the hosts soon got going and the first chance fell to Liverpool centre half Dejan Lovren.

Lovren sent the ball towards the goal and it had stand in ‘keeper Eldin Jakupovic well beaten, but Ahmed Elmohamady was the hero as he headed the ball off the line to keep the scores goalless. Mario Balotelli was the next one to test Jakupovic, who was deputising for both Allan McGregor and Steve Harper, as Raheem Sterling slotted a ball through but the third choice Hull ‘keeper pushed the ball wide for a corner.

Hull ended the first half strongly, with impressive midfielder Mohamed Diame just dragging a shot wide. The first half wasn’t dull but certainly lacked any real thrill. Balotelli looked a lot more impressive after suffering a slow start to his Reds career, Looking threatening in front of goal throughout the first half.

It was more of the same for the start of the second half, Liverpool and Hull exchanging little chances. The first real event of the second half was an injury to Robbie Brady ten minutes into the half, with Sterling booked for the challenge. Liverpool captain Steven Gerard was next to threaten Jakupovic’s goal as his curling effort just goes wide of the left hand post. Brendan Rogers decided to bring on Philippe Coutinho and Rickie Lambert for Joe Allen and Adam Lallana respectively to try and grab a goal for the hosts.

Liverpool substitutes Coutinho and Lambert changed the game for Liverpool and started to create chances, the Reds were dominating but just couldn’t find a way past a resilient Hull City defence. There seemed to be a realistic chance Liverpool could take the win after their introductions.

Sone Aluko, brought on for Hatem Ben Arfa, tried his luck from 30 yards out, but Mignolet managed to get hands to it. Liverpool kept trying to threaten but their chances slowed up, as Hull kept the Reds at bay.

Liverpool thought they had a penalty claim as sub Jordan Henderson went down in the box, only to be booked for simulation. The Reds almost got a late goal as Coutinho’s header went over from about three yards out with a vital touch from Jakupovic unnerving the Brazilian. Mario Balotelli misses an easy tap in as

The result means Hull take another point away from home after last week's 2-2 draw at Arsenal. Liverpool will see this as a missed opportunity to get a third win in succession.
