It was an exciting final day in the Premier League looking towards the foot of the league table, as the final relegation spot was fought to be avoided by Newcastle United and Hull City. Ultimately, Newcastle narrowly hold their place in the Premier League at the expense of The Tigers, who drew at home with fourth placed Manchester United.

At St James' Park, the pressure was on John Carver to deliver only a second league win in charge of the Magpies, when in mattered, to secure their Premier League place for next season. This, adding to growing calls of discontent of the owner of Newcastle United, Mike Ashley, set up for an emotional game for the Geordie faithful. However, those emotions were proven to be ones of joy. A goal from Moussa Sissoko in the 54th minute, as well as a finish from fans' favourite Jonas Gutierrez, setting the ground alight, meant that Newcastle had achieved a comfortable win to secure their status as a Premier League team. Cue a tremendous roar from the Toon fans, a relieved grin from Mike Ashley, and an outpour of emotion from John Carver, who no doubt was a satisfied man leaving the ground today - Newcastle are staying up.

Going to the KC Stadium, Hull had an enormous task ahead of them - to better Newcastle's result on the day, whilst playing Manchester United. However, with their Premier League status being threatened, the Tigers produced a valient effort against the Red Devils, producing 16 shots on the day compared to United's seven. This, coupled with two disallowed goals, put Hull City in cruise control for large portions of the game. The all-important goal never arrived though, and Newcastle's win meant that whatever the result at the KC Stadium, Hull were facing the drop. A year after reaching the FA Cup final, Hull City were relegated back to the Championship after a two-year stint in the top tier of English football.
