It is been reported that Guus Hiddink is the favourite to take over at Premier League side Leicester City.

The Foxes have made an approach for the 68-year-old, after he was replaced as Holland manager by Danny Blind. Hiddink only managed a year in the hot seat, with a poor run of results spelling the end for the veteran coach.

Surprise sacking for Pearson

Leicester, who have also been linked with a move for Bolton’s Neil Lennon, are on the search for a new manager following Nigel Pearson's sacking on Tuesday - this came from a reported disagreement with the Thai owners.

Pearson managed to guide Leicester to arguably the most unlikely survival in Premier League history, as they won seven of their last nine matches to finish in 14th.

A club statement read: "The board of directors recognises the success Nigel has helped to bring to Leicester City during his two spells in charge of the club, particularly during the last three and a half years.

"However, it has become clear to the club that fundamental differences in perspective exist between us. Regrettably, the club believes that the working relationship between Nigel and the board is no longer viable."

Hiddink has an illustrious managerial CV behind him, after taking charge of clubs such as: PSV, Valencia, Real Madrid and Chelsea, to name just a few. He has picked up numerous accolades along the way including the Eredivisie title, the European Cup and the FA Cup.

Promises made to fans

The statement added that owners, Vichai and Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, "would like to place on record their thanks" to Pearson, for his "considerable contribution" during his stint with the club.

It confirmed that the pair "remain wholly committed to the club's long-term development" and that they would continue to pump money into "a squad that will continue to be competitive" in the top flight.

The statement added that they "trust that the club's supporters" to recognise that the pair have "always acted with the best interests of the club at heart" and that the club's long-term future is "their greatest priority".
