Arsenal will be looking to build upon their weekend Wembley win against Wigan when West Ham come to visit the Emirates on Tuesday night.

West Ham are a team that Arsenal have managed big results against, scoring at least three goals in each of the last four games against the East London side, however, the Hammers have scored the first goal in the last three, before going on to lose 3-1 twice at Upton Park, with a 5-1 thumping at the Emirates sandwiched in-between.

The game will be the 118th between the two London teams, with Arsenal enjoying 54 wins to West Ham’s 28, with the sides drawing 26 of the games. West Ham have won just fourteen games at Highbury and the Emirates, and were the first to defeat the Gunners at the Emirates, a single goal from Bobby Zamora enough to seal a win for them, then managed by Alan Curbishley.

Arsenal go into the game on the back of a priceless penalty shoot-out victory over Championship side Wigan, although their league form over the past two months has seen them drop from the top of the table to fifth place, with no Champions League qualification becoming a serious possibility. With just three league wins in their last 10 games, Wenger will hope that momentum plays its way into the Emirates on Tuesday night. The Gunners also remain winless in the league since the infamous ‘Szczesny selfie’ at White Hart Lane just under a month ago.

West Ham, on the other hand, are enjoying a much more impressive run of form, which has seen them climb up the table, going from top relegation candidates to a comfortable mid-table position. Vital wins against relegation-threatened Sunderland, Aston Villa and Norwich have ensured an enjoyable final few months for West Ham fans.

Arsenal will be boosted by the return of centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who has missed out on the last few games because of a calf problem, as well as flamboyant midfielder Tomas Rosicky, who missed the short trip to Wembley with a thigh injury. West Ham, consequently, will only be expecting one extra player, with George McCartney the only one expected to return from injury. James Collins and Joey O’Brien are still not fit enough to return on Tuesday, whereas Jack Wilshere, Mesut Özil and Serge Gnabry are still a week or two away for the Gunners.

Expected Arsenal line-up: Szczesny; Sagna, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gibbs; Ramsey, Arteta, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rosicky, Giroud

Expected West Ham line-up: Adrian; Demel, Tomkins, Reid, McCartney; Noble, Nolan, Diame, Downing, Taylor; Carroll

Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham
