Thomas Vermaelen hasn’t been involved for Arsenal as much as he would like this season. The Belgian international has only taken part in 20 matches throughout the campaign and with only one more year left in his contract, there are plenty of rumors about a possible move as soon as this season comes to an end.

This time, it was Alex Kroes who added a little fire to the ongoing speculations. The defender’s agent has been reportedly eager to find his client a new home and there are several rumors that indicate the Belgian international could be headed to Serie A in the near future.

Kroes didn’t do anything to deny those reports.

“Napoli is definitively interested in him and they have already made a move towards a possible transfer but that’s all I can say at the moment”, Kroes told the media. “There are other teams that have also shown interest so the options are all open and will be discussed after the season is over”.

It’s no secret that Napoli are targeting Vermaelen to strengthen the defence. Rafa Benitez has gone on the record several times about how much he admires the Belgian star and he even tried to land him prior to the start of the season, but Arsene Wenger rejected the move.

Given how things have developed this season, there might be a change of scenery in the cards for Vermaelen. He has shown he is way too talented to spend the season buried on a substitutes bench.
