Arsenal have stepped up their bid to sign Saints teenager Calum Chambers and are growingly hopeful they can land him.

Southampton are clearly unwilling to lose another player and are under no financial pressure to sell, having already seen Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana depart the club. Dejan Lovren is also set to leave for Liverpool this weekend.

However, the North London club are ready to pay over £10 million to obtain the signature of the defender, who is tipped to break into the England senior squad.

Chambers can play at right-back but with Debuchy's arrival at the Emirates over a week ago it seems he may have more of a role in his primiarily position at the centre of defence, next campaign.

The transfer assumes Carl Jenkinson's three year stay at Arsenal will come to an end. The right-back has been linked with a move to West Ham this summer.

Chambers would become the third Southampton Academy graudate Arsene Wenger has signed, alongside Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
