After Southampton’s recent successes in the Premier League and the influx of top young talent rising up in the Saint’s ranks, top teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool are looking to tempt them away from St Mary’s – with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and highly rated left-back Luke Shaw already leaving and the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Dejan Lovren and Callum Chambers all seeming likely to leave this window.

Therefore, this means that Southampton will have to act fast in the transfer window in order to cover for the major losses that seem inevitable for them, one of which is a young Gunner who has recently broken into the Arsenal ranks at the age of 19 – Serge Gnabry.

Gnabry has shown great qualities, both of skill and physical capabilities at coping with the best league in England, however with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and the return of Theo Walcott from injury soon – it seems unlikely that the German youth international will make any headway just yet for the North London Club. Southampton have seen this as a great opportunity to bring in the 19-year-old on a loan deal to support their rejuvenation in the new season.

It is also reported that with the departure of Callum Chambers to Arsenal, Carl Jenkinson could also go the other way to the Saints on a loan deal alongside his Gunners counterpart. Serge Gnabry may not be a long term fix for the Southampton reds, as Arsene Wenger has already expressed his desire to keep him in London to become a world class striker by offering him a new, long term contract last season of which the tricky winger accepted.

All in all, the presence of Gnabry could prove to be a good addition to the squad for next season as he is certainly capable of producing moments of magic – but more plans in the long run need to be made if Southampton are to stay in the top flight after losing so many of their strongest players.
