The 2014 summer transfer window has been nothing but great for Arsenal so far. The Gunners have added much needed quality in their ranks by signing players like Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina. They haven't finished their business yet as they look to add another midfielder in the coming days.

After the departure of  Lukas Fabianski, who left Arsenal on a bosman last month, Arsene Wenger’s priority was to bring in a second choice goalkeeper as backup to Wojciech Szczesny. Arsenal have did just that and signed Colombian international David Ospina from French side OGC Nice for a bargain £3.2 million pounds.

Ospina is a vastly experienced goalkeeper who has ample quality to be a first choice keeper at Arsenal. Yes, Wojciech Szczesny’s got some serious competition for the starting spot as Ospina isn’t a keeper who’s just going to come in and accept the second choice role. The Colombian is one of the best goal keepers around and is a very determined professional who's always looking to progress.

Competition gets the best out of each player and goalkeepers are no exception. Presently, there are a host of big teams having two top goalkeepers fighting out for No.1 spot. Real Madrid (Iker Casillas & Diego López), Barcelona (Ter Stghen & Claudio Bravo) and Valencia (Diego Alves & Vicente Guaita) are just some examples of teams having two very talented goalkeepers in their ranks.

Ospina is much better than Szczesny in some aspects. The Colombian is one of the best shot stoppers in Europe and a much more mature keeper than the Pole. His decision making is spot on, as he knows when to come off his line and when not to. He’s someone who has consistently showcased his qualities time and again on domestic as well as on the international stage.

Taking absolutely nothing away from the brilliant season Szczesny’s had last year, Ospina’s arrival signals the Polish international to further up his game. The two would compliment and learn a lot from each other. Szczesny for one, will be aware that there’s an equally talented and a much more experienced keeper waiting to step in if his performances aren’t up to what’s expected of a first choice Arsenal goalkeeper.

Ospina is a strong competitor and is extremely confident in his qualities, just like Szczesny. This healthy rivalry between the sticks will be something both players would relish. Given David Ospina’s quality, he won’t  need more than a chance to prove himself and assure Arsene Wenger that he’s superior to Szczesny.

If Ospina starts for Arsenal regularly, Szczesny will have a really tough time getting his place back, but also, then he'll have the time needed to come back stronger and vice-versa. This would ensure that the first name on Arsenal's team sheet will always be goalkeeper who’ll be on top of his game, in good form and ready to guard the side against the most spectacular of opposition efforts.
