Arsenal have offered Olivier Giroud a new contract extension which could see him playing for the club up until 2018.

Giroud's current deal runs out in 2016 and Arsene Wenger is keen to tie down the North-London clubs top scorer of last season for a further two years.

Giroud scored an impressive 16 goals for Arsenal last season in a successful campaign which saw them put an end to their trophy drought and go on to lift the FA Cup.

Aswell as scoring goals, Giroud also impressed by creating chances for his fellow team-mates, setting up 8 goals in the process.

At just 27 years of age Olivier Giroud has notched up 32 international appearances and was part of the France squad that went to Brazil for this years World Cup.

Giroud featured five times for France during their World Cup campaign and scored once, creating one assist during tournament.

Although overshadowed by Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, who managed to score three goals and create three assists, Giroud was still a key part to the sides run to the Quarter-Finals, where they were beaten by eventual champions, Germany.

With Arsenal lacking fire-power upfront since the departure of Robin Van Persie to rivals Manchester United, they have often turned to Giroud and relied on the Frenchman to deliver the goods throughout their Premier League campaign.

However since then Arsene Wenger has strengthened the clubs attacking options by adding £35million man Alexis Sanchez to the squad from Spanish giants Barcelona.

Wenger has also hinted at playing the Chilean World Cup star through the middle, which would provide competition for Giroud and give the Gunners more options going forward.

Aswell as having Sanchez providing competition in an already strong squad, Arsenal are boosted by the return of Joel Campbell, who spend all of last season out on loan to Greek champions Olympiacos, where he scored 8 times during 32 appearances.

Campbell had an impressive World Cup with his native Costa Rica during their meteoric rise to the Quarter-Finals, where they were unlucky to lose to Holland on penalties.

The 22 year old will be hoping he can make the breakthrough into Arsenal's starting eleven and will look to rival Giroud for his place in the first team.
