Arsenal are reportedly back in pole position to buy Sami Khedira from Real Madrid, with Bayern Munich hoping to sign the player  -but only on a costless transfer next season.

Reports in Spain suggest that Real are desperate to cash in the midfielder, who is in the final year of his contract, this summer rather than lose him for costless to Bayern next year. This isn't surprising as Real paid €14 million for the midfielder during José Mourinho's  tenure as manager.

Arsenal's chances of signing Sami Khedira were heightened on Thursday after Bayern Munich stepped out of the race for the Germany international with Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge being quoted in saying ""That is pure speculation.".

The player's transfer value rose during the World Cup, were he put in good performances for the German national side in the 5 games that he played. This was most noticed  during the 7-1 thrashing of Brazil, (the hosts) where he registered one goal and one assist during the historical game.

If Bayern have stepped out of the race to sign the German international, then Arsenal look set to arrange a medical for Khedira, who had an injury scare during the World cup suffering a calf injury in training which forced him to miss the World Cup final.

Khedira's possible arrival at the historic Emirates stadium will surely go down well with fans, with Wenger already signing the likes of Sanchez and Debuchy to push for the title they so desperately crave.
