Arsenal will travel to Turkey for the first-leg of their Champions League play-off to face Besiktas for a place in the group stages.

The Gunners will play their first leg over 19/20 August whilst welcoming the Turkish club to the Emirates the following week.

Arsenal's best result in the Champions League came in 2006 when they finished runners-up to Barcelona, despite taking the lead. The only trophy that eludes Arsene Wenger is the Champions League, and after winning the FA Cup, the Frenchman will be looking to go one further from their 2006 heartbreak.

Last year's Champions League play-off saw Arsenal face Turkish side Fenerbahce, winning 5-0 on aggragate. Welshman Aaron Ramsey scored three over the two legs, whilst Kieran Gibbs and Olivier Giroud also got on the scoresheet.

Former Arsenal midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup now plays for the Istanbul club whilst more recently, Chelsea's Demba Ba has just signed for Besiktas. Croatian Slavan Bilic has been in charge of the club since last season, and will look to progress the club back in to the Champions League.

Besiktas have not won a major trophy since their Turkish Cup win in 2011, and their best Champions League finish was in 1987, where the reached the quarter-final stage before been knocked out by Dynamo Kyiv, 7-0 on aggregate.
