Arsenal and Besiktas played out a scoreless draw at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, which sets up a mouthwatering second leg in a weeks time. The game started well with chances being musterd up for both sides, most notably Demba Ba's effort from the halfway line straight from kick-off. Olivier Giroud's name was on the travelling contingent's lips, but for the wrong reasons as he fluffed the best chance of the half.

Arsene Wenger was aware of how open the game was, the Frenchman said; "It was a difficult game. We played with a good pace, a frenetic pace, from the first to the last minute and we could have won it. They had chances as well in the first-half but in the end we didn't lose the game and hopefully we make it at home"

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came off the bench in an attempt to influence the tie. The 21-year-old did just that, but could only find the post following a jinking run inside the penalty area. This came just after Aaron Ramsey was shown a second yellow card and the Welsh international was subsequently sent off.

When asked about what he thought about the referee's decision, the Arsenal boss argued; "For both yellow cards [I have complaints]. For me it's unbelievable to get a second yellow card when you see the kind of fouls they have made today, it's not serious. It's just not serious"

Calum Chambers continued his prosperous start to his career in North London with a further fine performance on his Champions League debut. The former Southampton starlet partook in the full 90-minutes for the second fixture running.

His new coach had this to say; "I think he was once again very good tonight and very conincing in his performance. He coped with the pressure, won the challenges and played on a pitch that was not easy. Overall I think he has done extremley well."

The Black Eagles will travel to London next week for the second-leg at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners' first European night since their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Wenger procliamed; "We now have a difficult game away from home again at Everton, and let's prepare for that."
