Due to the crippling injury list that has affected the Arsenal defence, Arsene Wenger may be forced to act quickly to try and find a short-term solution to his defensive headache. There is huge speculation surrounding two former Premier League defenders with the North London club. They are Joseph Yobo and Diego Lugano.

Joseph Yobo has a vast amount of Premier League experience having played in the Premier League with Everton and last season with Norwich on loan from Fenerbahçe. Even though he is 34 he would be a good shot-term fix. He is a natural leader which is something that the Arsenal defence lacks. Yobo is a former Nigeria international, who has been capped 100 times and represented the Super Eagles at three FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Diego Lugano, like Yobo, is a hugely experienced defender and he too has Premier League experience having played at West Brom. Lugano has also captained the Uruguayan National Team. What Lugano lacks in pace he makes up for in defensive leadership. Diego Lugano has 95 national team caps and he has played at the 2007 Copa América, 2010 World Cup, 2011 Copa América.

If Wenger does sign these two defensive behemoths his defence will be strengthened in the short-term.
