Not for the first time in a week Arsenal looked in control of a game only to let three points slip through their fingers. Firstly they let a 3-0 lead slip at home to Belgium side Anderlecht last Tuesday in a Champions League group game, and this was followed by a 2-1 loss at the Liberty Stadium which saw two quick fire goals from Swansea cancel out Alexis Sanchez's eighth Premier League goal.

Speaking to the press, Wojciech Szczesny gave his assestment on the recent defensive frailities that Arsenal have encoutered.

“For the majority of the game we looked solid at the back and we looked dangerous,” the goalkeeper told Arsenal Player. “We had a poor five-minute spell and at this level it costs you.

“Until they scored their first we were good. Then after they scored the second goal we looked dangerous again, so it was the five minutes that cost us the game.

"It’s something that we need to focus on because it’s been two games where short spells lacking discipline and focus have cost us.

“It could’ve gone either way but it didn’t. You can’t just hope that the next one will be different and we’ll get a bit of luck - we need to focus for 90 minutes and do our jobs properly offensively and defensively. Then things will change.”

Arsenal's No.1 has echoed many an Arsenal fan's opinion regarding this recent underwhelming defensive displays. Offensively, Arsenal have improved in recent weeks with the emergence of Chilean Sanchez especially catching the eye, but the defensive situation should be a major concern to Wenger and his coaching team.

The lack of defensive cover is something that just will not let up; Laurent Koscielny has had a further set back in his recovery which still leaves no cover for the centre back position which is being filled by the faltering Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal who is being used in a position alien to him.

The January transfer window is only just around the corner and it can not come soon enough for many of the Arsenal faithful.
