Six Arsenal players were in the squad as England fought back from behind to beat Slovenia. Danny Welbeck scored two vitals goals and Jack Wilshere was voted Man of the Match in his third consecutive England match. England captain Wayne Rooney also scored as he made his 100th cap for the three lions.

The pre-match talk was about England's captain, Wayne Rooney, reaching the prestigious achievement of 100 caps for his country. Optimism among England fans and pundits was high and many expected England to win their fifth consecutive match for the first time since 2008. Three Arsenal players, Wilshere, Welbeck and Gibbs, were named in the starting 11 with the other three, Chamberlain, Chambers and Walcott named among the substitutes. The first-half didn't live up to the expectations of many and it was a very dull affair. Rooney, Welbeck and Sterling all had chances for England but the best chance of the half fell to Slovenia's Novakovic who put his header just wide.

In the second-half the game livened up, with Rooney and Jagielka both heading wide from corners. The shock came in the 57th minute when a Jordan Henderson own goal gave Slovenia the lead. Their surprise lead didn't last long though, just seconds after the restart Rooney was brought down in the box and England were awarded a penalty. Rooney scored and England had drawn level, just minutes after they had fallen behind. Just eight minutes after Henderson's own goal England completed the comeback, as Danny Welbeck scored his fourth goal in four Euro qualifying games. Six minutes after that, Welbeck scored again, after some beautiful build up play between him and Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.

In the 82nd minute, Welbeck had a great chance to complete his hat trick but his shot was blocked. Three minutes later Chamberlain replaced Sterling with five minutes of the game remaining. Chamberlain nearly made an instant impact when his shot was blocked. England couldn't extend their lead and the game finished 3-1. After an impressive midfield performance Arsenal's Jack Wilshere was voted Man of the Match.
