After an impressive season-long loan spell with Greek side Olympiakos, and a fantastic World Cup in Brazil with Costa Rica, in which the Caribbean nation made it all the way to the quarter-finals. Campbell was named the Man of the Match in a 3-1 win against Uruguay and pulled together a string of good performances against Italy and Greece. Many expected Campbell to break into the Arsenal first team for the 2014/15 Premier League season, however things did not go to plan.

Campbell has spent the majority of the season so far watching from the sidelines, and the attacker was recently dropped from the squad entirely due to the return of Yaya Sanogo. Why Wenger has dropped such a promising young talent such as Joel Campbell is a mystery to everyone. Campbell can play in all attacking positions and many thought he would be the man to replace Olivier Giroud, who had suffered a toe injury ruling him out till the New Year. However, Wenger saw otherwise and signed Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck as a replacement. With Wenger seeming as he is completely uninterested in Campbell, some clubs have been sniffing around for the signing of the Costa Rican player, most notably Everton.

The question now is should Joel Campbell leave Arsenal? Lets look at both sides of the argument. If Campbell were to stay at the Gunners, he would find himself only featuring in meaningless Capital One Cup games or pre-season games, a player of Campbell’s quality should not be restricted to small games when we all know that the 23-year-old can deliver on the biggest of stages. However on the other end of the spectrum, if Campbell was to leave Arsenal for first team football, the Costa Rican international could develop himself into one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe and the club that he decides to join will benefit hugely due to his impact.

What is more is that Campbell’s current contract at Arsenal runs out at the end of this season, meaning that the winger is currently available for as little as £5 million, an absolute bargain to any team.
