Wojciech Szczesny - 6

A routine game until his injury. Nothing he could have done about the own goal.

Kieran Gibbs - 6

Good attacking display, but could have had more effect if he was given the ball more. Defensively, he didn't have his best game, although he wasn't the only one.

Per Mertesacker - 5

Showed great passion and energy but had little to show for it. Was caught out by any through ball that happened to be played. Badly needs a real partner at centre-back.

Nacho Monreal - 5

Similar to Per, had no positive impacts on the game, sat deeper than Mertesacker but even though he was at fault for Rooney's goal, the blame cannot be put fully on him as once again he was played out of position.

Calum Chambers - 8

A really impressive game again from Calum, as he continues to impress. Had full control of the right flank and came out on top of the United left midfielder constantly. He played many successful passes and one-twos with Chamberlain, and showed great tenacity in the tackle.

Mikel Arteta - 7

Arguably his most assured game in a so far torrid season for the captain. He rarely gave away the ball and didn't look threatened by the likes of Rooney and Di Maria. Nothing he could have done about either goal.

Aaron Ramsey - 6

Started the game very impressively, making himself involved in every Arsenal move, but hasn't been himself after his injury last season and faltered after the break. Came off for Olivier Giroud and wasn't really missed.

Alexis Sanchez - 7

Had a solid game, although nothing compared to recent performances. Constantly tried to drive the team forward and beat players. Worked hard all game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 9

Chambo had an outstanding night and was easily the best player on the pitch. He kept driving forward for the whole 98 minutes and looked like a seasoned professional among promising amateurs, was the only stand out performer along with Chambers and the two combined superbly throughout the game.

Jack Wilshere - 6

Another average performer in the game, got injured, came of. Had one of Arsenal's best chances to make it 1-0 but bottled it.

Danny Welbeck - 7

Bright against his old club, but didn't get any oppertunities to shoot. Was influential in the passing play and closed down the defence well.

Olivier Giroud - 8

Wasn't on for long enough to say he was outstanding, but fully deserved of his 8/10. Had a good chance headed over with his first touch, showed all the passion and commitment we remember from the Frenchman, but this time he also had the finish. A rocket of a shot into the top corner late on.

Damien Martinez - 5

Had several one on ones late on and struggled to make himself big. Parried Rooney's shot but could have done better in all situations.

Santi Cazorla - 6

Tried to spark a comeback when he came on but nothing really went the Spaniards way. Had a few good one twos and a shot the was well saved by David De Gea.
