Arsenal are not expecting Jack Wilshere or Wojciech Szczesny to be fit enough to face Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday but they are optimistic that neither injury is long-term.

Arsene Wenger has already said that he does not think Szczesny was seriously hurt following his collision with Kieran Gibbs in the build-up to Manchester United’s first goal, while an initial scan suggested that Wilshere hasn't suffered a major ankle injury.

The England midfielder left the Emirates on Saturday evening without crutches or a protective boot and will be further assessed on Monday when the swelling his subsided.

Arsenal think it is likely to be a soft tissue ankle sprain but he still has very little chance of playing in the Dortmund game, while Szczesny's collision with Gibbs resulted in a hip strain.

With David Ospina also out injured, the loss of Szczesny will mean starting Emiliano Martinez, and again having a teenage substitute goalkeeper.
