Arsenal have had a season to forget so far. Injuries to important defensive players Laurent Koscielny - who has only just returned to training - and Mathieu Debuchy have seen Arsenal go 8th place in the table and 15 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after 12 games. Poor results against Anderlecht, Swansea and more recently Manchester United have also had fans wanting Arsene Wenger out of the club for good. Many blame these poor results on their current back four, which is currently made up of three full backs and Nacho Monreal filling in as centre back.

This decision from the French manager to play Monreal as centre back has had Gooners baffled; the former Malaga left back is far from a being considered as a top left back, let alone a good centre back. Many Arsenal fans would prefer to see Calum Chambers in the centre back position where he has had great success in his first few months at the North London club, meaning that Spanish youngster Hector Bellerin would take the right back position. This would seem to be the perfect solution for Arsenal because Bellerin has shown in the past that he is well rounded right back in both attacking and defensive abilities and he is officially the fastest player at the club, after beating Theo Walcott’s 40 metre record. And at 19-years-old, Bellerin could have a bright future ahead of him.

The Spaniard has only played one game this season for the Gunners against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in which Arsenal were humiliated 2-0 away from home, however Bellerin did put on a good performance for the visitors. If Bellerin and Chambers were both to play in the defensive back four, Arsenal would become defensively more stable with Chambers being a more efficient centre back than Monreal. With Bellerin as the right back, it will add more pace to team and it will kick start Bellerin’s career. However, playing two 19-year-old defenders with not enough experience in the Premier League and the Champions league is a very risky move for Wenger - but sometimes that is exactly what certain managers have to do.
