Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed 23-year-old English midfielder Jack Wilshere has had minor ankle surgery; but has denied that it is another injury setback for the talented player - who has struggled with injuries for the past three years.

Wenger had this to say, as quoted by SkySports: "Jack has had surgery to take two screws off his ankle because they were irritating him but it's a very minor procedure - he'll be out for a few days. It was irritating his ankle so they had to take them off; it was planned to be done at the end of the season but because he had irritation, we decided to do it now. If he was back for next weekend it would be quick - but it's days not weeks.

Wilshere was pictured on the substitutes' bench during The Gunners' 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday, but was not risked off the bench; despite proving his fitness, Wenger has decided against playing Jack until further notice.
