This week, a few young guns featured for their International youth set-ups and England U21’s - Germany U21’s was one of them with three Arsenal prodigies featuring throughout the exhilarating 90 minutes that saw England come from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

For England it was Carl Jenkinson (currently on-loan at West Ham) and Calum Chambers who made appearances – Jenkinson from the start at right-back whilst Chambers was a late substitute. On the opposite team, Serge Gnabry, lately recovering from injury got some valuable game time coming on at half-time for Leonardo Bittencourt.

The game started better for the visitors as German star Philipp Hofmann opened the scoring with a fine strike from the edge of the box, however England regained a foothold with a close range finish from the centre of the box by Derby County loanee Jesse Lingard just after the half hour after a neat low cross from the right.

Hofmann scored again five minutes after the break to help the Germans retake the lead via a close range goalmouth scramble. England then went on to win the game with two goals within three minutes with goals from Nathan Redmond and Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse; the first a low shot that took a slight deflection across Marc Andre-ter Stegen into the bottom corner from Redmond on 79 minutes and the match winner in the 82nd minute following some tidy passing outside the area then into the young Saints star’s path to be slotted home neatly.

Overall it was good to see some young guns get some international game time that will be greatly valued for their future development and we hope to see the same players feature for the youth side and senior side in the foreseeable future.
