Arsenal legend David Seaman has stated that the £10 million capture of Petr Cech from Chelsea shows that Arsenal are closer than ever to winning the Premier League title for the first time in ten years.

Cech became Arsenal's first major summer signing following his move across London, and former 'keeper Seaman believes he is exactly what the club have been missing.

"He's part of the jigsaw that's nearly finished," said Seaman, "by bringing quality players in like Cech, that will be what we need to win the Premier League."

Arsenal finished last season strongly by coming third in the league and retaining the FA Cup, yet now with a player of Cech's caliber they must now push on and complete their squad in order to compete with Chelsea next season.

"It's not all about Cech", continued Seaman, "we still need a good centre-half and a Patrick Vieira or Yaya Toure-like midfielder."

Cech has been part of four Premier League winning squads with Chelsea, and it's the confidence that comes with winning a league title is what Seaman believes will be vital for the Gunners next season. "He's got trophies behind him and I would say he's bang in the prime of his career. He's got at least another five or six years ahead of him."

FA Cup holders Arsenal rotated between Wojciech Szczęsny and David Ospina last season, the latter finishing as number one in Premier League games.Cech himself was number two behind Belgium international Thibaut Courtois after losing his place in the first team early last season. Despite only making seven appearances last season, Seaman believes that Cech "won't want to come to Arsenal to be a number two," which leaves either Szczęsny or Ospina to be left in the dark over his place in the squad.

Szczęsny has already taken to social media to welcome his new teammate, stating that he is "Delighted to have a chance to learn from one of the best goalkeepers in the world.” This suggests that the Pole has accepted that he will be forced to watch on as Cech takes over the number one shirt, yet with Cech's experience it can only help develop Szczęsny's career further and benefit Arsenal in the future.
