It's been a great week to be associated with Arsenal. On Monday, the North London giants completed the signing of former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, for a fee believed to be around £11 million.

Many believe that this transfer signifies a huge step towards a Premier League-winning squad, and represents the third world-class signing the club has made in three years, along with Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez. And it is Sanchez, incidentally, who is the Star Man of the Week.

Competitors for this week's award

The Chilean international does not simply receive this title because he was the only high-profile Arsenal player to play the entirety of the week, for his country in the Copa America, but mainly because of how fantastic he's been.

The title could've easily have been given to  Cech for choosing to sign with  Arsenal, or to Arsene Wenger for securing Cech's signature and thus upsetting Jose Mourinho as a result (quite the achievement in itself).

Alternatively, perhaps any one of the Arsenal Ladies, such as Alex Scott, Casey Stoney and Lianne Sanderson, who were involved in the Women's World Cup as England bravely battled to come third. However, it was Sanchez who claims the title this time around.

Why does he deserve it?

On Tuesday, the South American talisman worked his socks off and ended up assisting Eduardo Vargas' first goal, as Chile saw off Peru in the semi-final clash by a score of two goals to one.

Then, on Saturday, the former Barcelona man performed on the big stage, the Copa America final.

Playing Argentina, à la Lionel Messi, Angel di Maria and Javier Mascherano, Chile were the underdogs. But they gutsy ones at that. After holding Messi and co. to a 0-0 draw for 120 minutes, the game went to penalties.

Once Gonzalo Higuain had blasted over and Éver Banega was denied by Claudio Bravo, it was up to Sanchez to win the penalty shoot-out and Chile's first ever major trophy.

And he did, in some style. Stepping up, Sanchez blew out his cheeks, ran up to the ball and delicately and cooly chipped the ball, before whipping his shirt off and running off to celebrate with the fans.

This technique, known as the Paneka to many, is outrageous at the best of times, let alone the final of one of the biggest football competitions in the world! But that's what sort of man Alexis Sanchez is - outrageous.
