It seems odd to see Arsenal linked with so many big superstars during a transfer window. Long gone are the days of being constantly linked with average stars such as Kalou and Gourcuff. The club have now been linked with Marco Reus, alongside signing Petr Cech earlier in the window.

The Gunners' squad looks offensively heavy, so do the FA Cup holders really need yet another attacking option? Could the money be spent more wisely by investing in the more depleted areas of the squad?

Too many midfielders

The variety of offensive midfielders available to Arsene Wenger at this current moment is simply staggering. Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain make up only some of the players Arsenal have available in these positions. The club arguably have the finest array of attacking midfielders in the country and these are players, at this current moment in time, are in form and fighting for the limited places within the first team.

Where would Reus fit in? His favoured position is on the left side of midfield, which Sanchez has made his ow,n while the right hand side is set to be dominated by Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ramsey.

As for playing him centrally, that position is unquestionably Mesut Ozil's, so how would Reus break into the first team?

An unnecessary purchase

Reus is possibly one of the finest attacking players in world football but what it falls down to is that you simply cannot have everyone you want in your team.

It would be wrong to condemn a player of his capabilities to the bench and, while it would make the squad depth frightening, it seems to me that Wenger would struggle to fit him in the Arsenal set-up without upsetting his current crop of players.

The supposed transfer kitty which has been handed to Wenger could be invested in squad depth in areas which do not have the same strength as the front line.
