Westwood, 25, who joined Aston Villa from Crewe on transfer deadline day of the summer of 2012, admitted that "he didn't care what wage he was earning it was the fact that he just wanted to play in the Premier League". 

He knew he was going to the Premier League when Swansea enquired about him, he agreed terms and at the last minute the deal fell through. 

Westwood revealed "that it was around 12:30pm on the deadline day while he was in his dad's kitchen preparing lunch when he received a phone call for Villa and they requested his availability", this was agreed over the phone and he went down to Villa to finalise the details of his contract straight away. 

Westwood disclosed that "I didn't know how much [salary] I was going to own [get] until after I had signed the contract, it was just purely the fact that I wanted to play Premier League football".

He has also revealed that "it took a lot of hard work to get there" [to play for Aston Villa]  because at the age of 18 he was sent on loan to Nantwich Town from the Crewe academy. As usual he was sent there to get experience of regular of first team football. He played 5 games scoring no goals. Overall, whilst at Crewe he played 123 games scoring 14 goals.

ASTON VILLA DEBUT 

Having completed his move to Aston Villa, Westwood made his debut on 3rd November 2012 in a 1-0 win away to Sunderland, since then Westwood has played 97 games scoring 6 goals.

FIRST LEAGUE GOAL

He scored his first league goal in a 2-2 draw away to local rivals West Brom.

MOST MEMORABLE/PIVOTAL GOAL

Westwood scored his most memorable goal in a 4-1 away defeat against Manchester United on March 29 2014 and his most pivotal goal would be scoring after one minute in a 3-1 defeat of Hull City on the 3rd May 2014 to ensure Aston Villa's Premier League survival.
