Aston Villa have reportedly had a £1.3 million bid rejected for Danish international left-back, Nicolai Boilesen

Tim Sherwood is in the market for a left-back with Aly Cissokho being told he can leave Villa Park, and the fitness of Kieran Richardson a cause for concern, as he looks to make the squad his own.

The future of the other left-back at Villa Park, Joe Bennett is also undecided, making the position a key target for Sherwood.

Boilesen, 23, has a year left to run on his current deal in Amsterdam but looks set to leave this summer with a handful of clubs wanting his signature.

Boilesen is known for his electric pace and the way he gets forward. He provides lethal crosses from the left would become a real asset in the Villa side, whether Christian Benteke stays or goes.

Injuries have hindered the development of Boilesen on many occasions. The worst injury came early into his Ajax days when a thigh strain ruled him out for almost a year.

Less severe knocks have been common since then, though not related to the thigh strain.

Last season, Boilesen was booed by fans after a series of poor performance for the Amsterdam, who lost the title to PSV.

Ajax director, Marc Overmars confirmed the Danish international is looking for a move by saying: ”He has indicated that he wants to look abroad, and that is fine.”

Does he fit the bill?

The simple answer is yes. Sherwood wants young, energetic players in his side and Boilesen fits the mold perfectly.

The 23-year old is available cheaply due to his contract running down. It would be a coup for Villa as they look to rebuild.

Being international team-mates with Jores Okore, the Villa centre-back could be pivotal in bringing Boilesen to Villa Park.
