Everton defender Luke Garbutt has just penned a new long-term five-year deal at the club. However it looks like he is set to be sent out on loan next season to another Premier League side, apparently Tim Sherwood's Aston Villa are heading up the charge.

The England under-21 international, fresh off the back of a disappointing European under-21 Championship campaign with England, signed a new deal with the club.

Roberto Martinez spoke about Garbutt’s development

This came after contemplating for the majority of last season on whether or not he would stay with Everton, but after speaking with Roberto Martinez at length he decided it was right to stick with the Liverpool-based club.

In which he said "was the best available for him" with Everton, and it appears that Garbutt agrees that staying with the club was the right thing to do.

Ideal development but short on offers?

With Leighton Baines ahead of him in the pecking order, and with Baines currently England's first choice left-back, his chances of first team football will be in short supply at Goodison Park.

So, a loan move to another Premier League club like Aston Villa would be the ideal move for the player. Though many Premier League clubs, including Villa, may be disinterested in taking Garbutt on loan.

This is due to the player recently penning a new five-year deal, and could be unwilling to develop a player they see no real possibility in signing permanently at the end of his loan spell.

Garbutt has shown a terrific amount of potential but has had no real opportunity to shine thus far for his current club.

Tim Sherwood could very well take a chance on the youngster given his record of encouraging youth development at Spurs, and bringing young prospect Jack Grealish through to the first team fold at Villa Park.

Only time will tell, of course, and with a long transfer window ahead there's still plenty of time left for Everton to do what's right - by both the player and by the club.
