Aston Villa midfielder Scott Sinclair has hailed the signing of former teammate Micah Richards, and insisted that he'll improve the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Sinclair, 26, spent two years at Manchester City with Richards, before both went out on loan last season. Sinclair spent the season on loan at Villa Park, completing a permanent move at the end of it, whilst Richards left England for a period at Fiorentina.

An excellent signing

Despite the full-back not enjoying the best of spells in Italy, Sinclair is sure that he'll make an instant impact because "he's got the full package, pace, power and a good reading of the game." The winger also added that he thought Richards "was a brilliant signing," and that the club had brought in "someone with a winning mentality."

New manager Tim Sherwood revived Villa's season upon replacing Paul Lambert, dragging the team out of the relegation zone and leading them to an FA Cup final. Aswell as this, he instilled a happy atmospere in the Villa camp, one that Sinclair believes will only be improved by the "bubbly" Richards.

"He has such a great spirit. It’s fantastic to have him around the place, and the lads will love having him here," added Sinclair.

More possible additions

Villa are certainly showing signs of intent by conducting their business early on in the window, and there could well be more signings to follow in the coming weeks.

Idrissa Gueye has flown in for talks and a potential medical, after Lille accepted a bid in the region of £9million for the centre midfielder last week, whilst interest has also been shown in Dennis Praet.

There remains doubt over whether Christian Benteke will still be a Villa player by the end of the transfer window, with neither Liverpool or Tottenham yet to trigger his release clause (£32.5m) with a bid.
