Aston Villa have had an offer of £8.5million for striker Jordan Ayew accepted by FC Lorient, according to Sky Sports.

The move would take Villa's summer spending to over £20million, and club officials are expected to enter talks with Ayew over the weekend.

More Ligue 1 poaching

If a deal is struck to bring the forward to Villa Park, he would become the club's third signing from the French top division in a busy summer for Tim Sherwood's men.

Centre midfielder Idrissa Gueye was the first in, making a £9million move from LOSC Lille, before highly rated left-back Jordan Amavi completed a deal for an undisclosed fee last week.

Their only other business so far has been done in England, with Mark Bunn, Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair all boosting the squad.

As for outgoings, Nicklas Helenius, Antonio Luna, Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke have all left the club, with the latter two raising over £40million between them.

Who is he?

Ayew is a Ghana international, who has been playing in France since being signed to Marseille's youth academy in 2006.

Making his debut in 2009, the striker made over 100 appearances for Marseille, before spending the 2013/14 season on loan at Sochaux.

Lorient bought him for around £2million last summer, and he had an impressive season, scoring 12 goals in 28 games, also providing five assists.

He is the brother of talented winger Andre Ayew, who signed for fellow Premier League side Swansea City earlier this summer.

Blessed with pace and an eye for goal, Ayew is also known for having some temperament issues, and managed to recieve two yellow cards within two minutes of being substituted on in a Ligue 1 game last season.

For the Ghanaian national team, he has bagged eight goals in 28 caps after making his debut in 2010.

Benteke replacement?

Much has been made over who Aston Villa will replace the departed Christian Benteke with, after he made his long awaited move to Liverpool last week.

It is possible that Ayew could be that man, as Villa look to go about spending the money they recieved for the Belgian, however he hasn't been the only man linked.

Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan was subject to a reported enquiry by Villa earlier this week, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor, who linked up with Sherwood at Tottenham, is another target.

There's always the possibility of Sherwood signing more than one frontline striker, as he seeks further options and tactical flexibility ahead of the new season.
