Libor Kozak's two goals were not enough to earn Aston Villa a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, as the two sides played out a 2-2 draw on Friday evening.

Team News

Villa manager Tim Sherwood went with almost the same starting squad from Saturday's 1-1 draw at Walsall, with the exception of two players: Goalkeeper Mark Bunn for Jed Steer and previously injured Gabby Agbonlahor entered for Callum Robinson

First Half

Kozak stole the show after scoring just six minutes into the game to give Villa the early lead in the West Midlands derby. Good footwork from Agbonlahor saw the wide frontman provide the assist, allowing Kozak to strike home from 20 yards out.

Kozak created more chances in the first half, after Jordan Amavi split the defence and found the Czech forward who hit the woodwork from close range. The two paired up well throughout the match and minutes later, the ex-Lazio striker was just wide after a heading the ball from Amavi.

Second Half

Agbonlahor had a chance to put Villa up by two goals early in the second half after he made a great run into the box, only to be closed down by Wolves 'keeper Carl Ikeme

Wolves also had a great chance themselves early in the half after striker Nouha Dicko curled a shot straight at Bunn, who easily gathered the ball to keep Villa's one goal lead.

The game began to change in the 72nd minute, as Wolverhampton got an equalizer after David Edwards knocked the ball past Bunn at the near post.

Although Kozak scored again four minutes later to put Villa on top once more, Wolves striker Benik Afobe scored in the final minutes of the game to earn a draw.

Getting on the end of Robinson's cross, Kozak thought he had won the game for Villa, only for Afobe to dramatically tie things up with a cool finish after slipping behind the defence.

While Villa did not get a favourable result after scoring early on in the game, Kozak and Amavi's chemistry looked impressive and will only improve going into the Premier League season.

Villa have just one game left in their pre-season schedule, facing Nottingham Forest on Saturday before the league kicks off on August 8.
