Aston Villa have announced their second signing in as many hours, as striker Rudy Gestede completed his move from Blackburn Rovers.

Signing a five-year-deal for a transfer fee believed to be around £7million, Gestede arrives as one of a huge influx of players at Villa this summer, with no less than nine signings completed before the end of July.

Number nine

Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi, Jordan Ayew and Jose Angel Crespo had already been signed and sealed before today, with midfielder Jordan Veretout announced just around half an hour before Gestede was.

There could be more yet to come, with Emmanuel Adebayor heavily linked with a loan move from Tottenham, ready to join Ayew and Gestede as new additions to the attacking ranks.

They were well needed after star player Christian Benteke left for Liverpool earlier this summer, finally making his £32.5million move after a long running transfer saga.

A proven goalscorer

Gestede's credentials are well known and were further advanced last season, as he scored 22 goals in all competitions, 20 of those in the Championship to be the fourth top scorer in the league, striking up a threatening partnership alongside Scotland's Jordan Rhodes.

Reknowned for being a powerful striker, standing at 6ft 4", Gestede will be sure to strike fear into Premier League centre backs in the coming season, and could make his competitive debut for the Villans next week against AFC Bournemouth, when the Premier League season gets underway.

He does have slight experience in England's top divison having made three appearances for Cardiff City in the 2013-14 season, but he couldn't register any goals and the Welsh side were eventually relegated. Hopefully for Villa things will be slightly different this season, as they look to improve upon last season, where they finished in 17th place come the end of 38 games.
