Aston Villa take part in the second of their three straight derby matches on Saturday, hosting Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion.

With Leicester City already down and Birmingham City to come in the League Cup midweek, the West Brom game offers a huge chance for the Villans to pick up three points on home turf.

A shaky start for new look Villa

That aforementioned Leicester game has placed some pressure upon Tim Sherwood and co, after they threw away a 2-0 lead, conceding three goals in the last 20 minutes to lose 3-2.

Two perfect strikes from Jack Grealish and Carles Gil put them infront, and it was a bitter blow to come away from the game with no points, leaving Sherwood devastated.

The defeat left Villa with just one win from their first five league matches, with that coming on the opening day, meaning that Saturday is a crucial game for them.

Victory could see them move into the top half, as high as ninth, by the end of the weekend, however a loss could result in them finishing the matchweek bottom of the table. Such a drop, down to 20th from their current position of 15th, would set in big concerns over whether or not the team are making progression.

After a summer of overhaul, some new signings - namely Micah Richards and Idrissa Gueye - have settled in well, whilst others such as Jordan Ayew and Jordan Veretout, are yet to impress in the Premier League.

Team news

There are a few injury concerns for Villa ahead of the game, with two creative talents both doubtful. Carles Gil, who came off with the score at 2-0 - Leicester, hasn't fully shaken off his injury, whilst Adama Traore is touch and go for the game.

Jose Angel Crespo could make his first competitive appearance after getting injured in pre-season, very soon after signing, whilst Joleon Lescott is in line to start against his old club at centre back.

Elsewhere in the defence, Tiago Ilori won't be ready for his first senior minutes, despite playing in an under-21 game earlier this week.

Three in a row?

Facing the Baggies three times last season, Villa fans were left fairly pleased, winning twice and losing once.

The loss came back at the Hawthorns in December, when Paul Lambert was still in charge. Ex-Villan Craig Gardner scored the only goal of the game, to secure a 1-0 win.

However, Villa got their revenge quite quickly, capping a memorable month of March with back to back wins against their rivals within four days of eachother.

First of all, it was in the league, as Christian Benteke's winner handed them a 2-1 win in midweek, setting them up for a resulting 2-0 win at the weekend, which put them into the FA Cup Semi Final.
