Reports suggest that Tim Sherwood has been set an ultimatum by the Aston Villa board - win one of your next two games or face the sack.

After the terrible start to the season made by the Villans under Sherwood, it seems as if the board are finally losing patience on B6, and are preparing for life without the man that they hired just seven months ago.

Villa already in trouble following disastrous start

Having won just one of their opening eight Premier League games, Villa are stuck in the relegation zone on just four points, and have a perilous run of games coming up.

They face Chelsea, Swansea City, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in their next five games, and you wouldn't fancy them to pick up many points based on their current form.

A lack of defensive cohesion combined with poor attacking imagination has seen Villa plunder down the league table despite a huge summer spend, and it appears that Sherwood must take at least three points from the next two games in order to keep his job.

Swansea game could be Sherwood's last

With Chelsea away seemingly a daunting task, especially since the Blues need a win to get out of their current rut, the following home game against Swansea looks like it could be do-or-die for Sherwood.

There are no shortage of options to replace Sherwood, should be be sacked, with Brendan Rodgers emerging as the favourite to be the next Villa manager.

Out of work after being sacked by Liverpool last week, Rodgers is keen to make a quick return to management, and his ability to work with young players, such as those Villa bought in the summer, is an attractive one for Villa's owners. Other options include the likes of Frank De Boer, who has publicly revealed his interest in working in the Premier League.
