Aston Villa have been offered the services of Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer, and are debating whether to go ahead with the move, per reports in the Daily Mail.

Vidic is without a club having agreed to terminate his contract with Inter Milan by mutual consent, and it's thought that he'd prefer a move back to England rather than to America, with a host of MLS clubs interested.

Serbian's career has gone downhill recently

Since leaving Manchester United in 2014, Vidic has struggled to make an impact in Serie A, restricted to just 28 appearances last season, before not featuring at all this season as Roberto Mancini's men chase the title.

However, his reputation is still in tact on English shores, having spent nine seasons at United, playing over 300 games and helping them to numerous Premier League titles and a Champions League win.

The Villans do have a couple of concerns over any potential move though, one being his fitness. At the age of 34, the Serbian centre-back is no spring chicken, and it could take time to get him back to match-fitness, especially given that his last competitive game was in May last year.

Adding to that, a player with his reputation doesn't come cheap wage wise, and it's thought that his demands could come as a potential stumbling block.

Garde is chasing a centre-back

Manager Remi Garde is certainly in the market for a player of Vidic's type, given that he's already been targeting a move for Lamine Sane during the window, only for the Bordeaux defender to edge towards a move to Swansea City.

Defending has been something of a problem for the basement battlers this season, with players such as Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Jose Angel Crespo failing to make an impact after summer moves.

Crespo has already been shipped out to Rayo Vallecano during this window, whilst Lescott is another who has been linked with a move to America. Captain Richards has kept a place in the team to an extent, but Garde seems to prefer using his skipper at right-back.
