Burnley have completed have the signing of Belgium midfielder Steven Defour for a club-record fee in the region of £8m.

The 28 year-old makes the switch to Turf Moor from Anderlecht and joins on a three-year deal.

Defour becomes the fourth arrival in Lancashire this summer and breaks the previous transfer fee of Andre Gray who joined from Brentford last August. 

The Belgian international has played 46 times for the national side.

Defour, an experienced midfield outlet 

Defour makes the switch to the Premier League after an 11-year senior career in his home country and also in Portugal. 

The Belgian began his youth career at the age of just five years old with Zennester Hombeek, before a seven-year spell with hometown side Mechelen. Making the switch to Genk in 2004, Defour was promoted to the senior team a year later making 30 appearances.

Already having made his international bow in May 2006, the midfielder moved to rivals Standard Liège that summer. During a five-year stint with Les Rouches, Defour was part of the side that were Belgian champions between 2007 and 2009.     

Defour then left his native Belgium for F.C. Porto in 2011, where he won the Primeira Liga title twice in three year. Then 26, Defour returned to Belgium to Anderlecht, the third different Belgian club he has turned out for.

Dyche completes fourth signing for Clarets

Defour becomes The Clarets fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper Nick Pope, Defender Matthew Lowton from relegated Aston Villa and Yóhann Gudmondsson from Charlton Athletic.

Sean Dyche has been searching for midfield recruits in the Burnley engine room and now the addition of Defour brings a wealth of international experience and will be a creative outlet for his side.
