The result moves Chelsea above Spurs in fifth place but leaves QPR precariously close to the relegation zone. They are now level on points with 18th place Bolton having played one more game.

It was a deserved result after Chelsea put in a performance full of class and QPR defended sloppily. The home side continued their momentum after their brilliant defensive win against Barcelona midweek that catapulted them into the Champions League final. Right from the kick off they looked dangerous and Sturridge opened the scoring within the first minute with a brilliant long range shot. Terry, playing against QPR for the first time since being accused of racist conduct towards Anton Ferdinand, then got the second when he headed in Juan Mata’s corner.

Mark Hughes’ side looked a shambles at the back and Torres took advantage when he slotted in two goals in quick succession. Kalou set up the first with an excellent searching pass and Torres rounded goalkeeper Paddy Kenney to scored. He got his second moments later after Nedum Onuoha made a dreadful back pass to Kenney. The ball bounced off the QPR keeper and into the feet of Torres who got his second.

By halftime it was simply a matter of damage limitation for QPR. However Chelsea, and Torres, had no intention of putting on the breaks. The Spaniard got his hat trick when Mata set him up with a brilliant pass. Torres shot from close range, and despite Kenney getting a hand to it, there was no stopping the powerful shot. It was his first hat-trick since 2009 and was a just reward for a brilliant attacking display that was reminiscent of his best days at Liverpool. In a rare display of overt exhilaration owner Roman Abramovich was seen high-fiving all around him as his £50 million striker celebrated on the pitch.

Chelsea then made it 6-0 when substitute Malouda picked up the ball inside the box and powered the ball into the back of the net.

QPR pulled a goal back late with a clinical finish from Cisse. However it was much too little too late and the away side looked happy that the match was over when the final whistle went.

Di Matteo’s side have a tough run coming up with league games against Newcastle, Liverpool, as well as the FA Cup final and the Champions League final against Beyern Munich. However with the form they showed today they look like they are getting back into their winning ways. QPR now face a scrappy relegation dogfight with upcoming games against Stoke and Manchester City.
