Chelsea are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Atlético Madrid pair Filipe Luis and Diego Costa in the summer, with the deal likely to see Thibaut Courtois return to his parent club.

A deal to acquire left-back Filipe, who would cost around £16.5m, would place Ashley Cole's future at Stamford Bridge in serious jeopardy, demoting the England full-back to third in the pecking order, behind César Azpilicueta and Filipe.

Manchester United have previously scouted the Brazil international, though not in Luiz Felipe Scolari's plans this summer, but his expected move to Chelsea is proof of the Blues' diminishing interest in Southampton's Luke Shaw. United have reportedly submitted a £27m bid for the promising England international.

Jose Mourinho is also keen on strengthening his forward line and the Portuguese coach regards Diego Costa as a suitable option, given his potent goal-scoring nature, registering 35 goals this campaign, and excellent work-rate, the minimum Mourinho demands from his players.

Costa hinted at a possible move to West London after contributing to Chelsea's exit from the Champions League. "Chelsea in my future?", he told Sky Italia. "We'll see, I know there are offers for me".

Chelsea chiefs were believed to have agreed a £32m fee to sign the Ibérian-Brazilian striker, who will represent Spain at the World Cup, and the deal is thought to have been finalised after Wednesday's Champions League encounter, along with an agreement to bring Filipe to Stamford Bridge.

Courtois, who Mourinho praised for an "impossible" save from John Terry, is expected to conclude his three year loan stay at the Vicente Calderon stadium and return to Chelsea, where the 21 year-old Belgian international is to provide stern competition for Petr Cech.
