Chelsea have ended the loan spell of Lewis Baker at Sheffield Wednesday. The news is reportedly coming because they dropped him from their entire matchday squad. The 19 year-old started the season as a member of the first team after impressing for the U-21's and making his first team debut last season.

But after making no appeareances the club decided to send him on loan to the Championship to gain experience. Prior to being dropped on Saturday, Baker made four appearances for The Owls with two of them being starts. His recall may expose how Chelsea go about their loan dealings and makes one think that all their loanees have one clause or the other ensuring they get suitable playing time.

Baker is one of Chelsea's academy's brightest prospects at the moment, with Mourinho famously saying "If, in a few years, Baker, Izzy Brown and Dominc Solanke are not national team players, I should blame myself.’

At the moment, the immediate future is unclear for Baker, as he has the option of staying at Chelsea along with Nathan Ake, Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Izzy Brown to slug it out for first team chances. Or a few Football League teams could be interested in acquiring the services of the promising English midfielder.
