Branislav Ivanović headed the visitors in front at the Parc des Princes, but PSG's second-half improvements were rewarded with an Edinson Cavani equaliser to set an intriguing return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 11.

PSG started the game on the front foot, as both Blaise Matuidi and Zlatan Ibrahimović forced Thibaut Courtois to parry headers, in the 11th and 13th minute respectively. Chelsea would also get their first chance of the match in the opening exchanges, as Eden Hazard was able to find space on the right, but his subsequent cross was too close to the Italian keeper, Salvatore Sirigu, who was able to catch the ball comfortably. PSG had another chance in the 34th minute, when Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani's, header from a Ezequiel Lavezzi corner, only for Courtois to get a hand to it to tip it behind his own goal.

Chelsea took advantage first to score just two minutes later. Captain, John Terry, was able to find a cross, which was flicked on by Gary Cahill, giving the unmarked Branislav Ivanovic the freedom to head home and give the away goal to the London side.

Paris were able to get one more chance before halftime, however. In the last minute, Ibrahimovic was able to strike the ball with plenty of power to attempt to find the top corner on Courtois' side of the goal, only for his shot to go way beyond target.

In the second half, PSG were able to come back and score. In the 55th minute, Cavani capitalised on some slack marking from Gary Cahill to head home Matuidi's brilliant cross from six yards out to put the Parisians on level terms.

PSG could've taken the lead only three minutes later when Ibrahimović was able to slide through the home defence, only for the Belgian Courtois to save with his feet and César Azpilicueta to block Lavezzi's follow-up.

In the 80th minute, Cavani again had a chance to providing a second goal where he skipped away from Nemanja Matić, only for his shot to be prodded wide of both Courtois and the far post. There was to be one last notable chance though. Zlatan Ibrahimović powered through at the far post to meet a cross with a fierce downward header and once again Courtois was able to claw the ball over the bar to ensure the teams will meet again all square at Stamford Bridge next month.

With this match, Paris were able to preserve their eight-year unbeaten home European record of thirty-two games. They will now face Toulouse this weekend as their race in Ligue 1 is still up and active. Chelsea on the other hand were able to provide good defense and the away to make sure they have the advantage when they host the second leg on March 11th. They will now host Burnley on the 21st in their next match in the Premier League.
