Thierry Henry: "The man of the match [so far] is the referee."

A match that obviously would seal thousands to millions of viewers across the world, it almost could not have been more heart-twisting than it appeared. Both squads began the fixture straight from the starting whistle with a desire to press heavily in search of the equalizing goal. However, the pressure immediately brought a tremendous amount of interceptions, leading to rapid counter-attacking. Thierry Henry's qoute became relevant with the 50/50 challenge between Oscar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in which the referee appeared to immediately reach for a red card after the sliding challenge. The referee was then immediately surrounded by every outfield Chelsea player in utter dismay. The sliding challenge seemed to at least be a yellow card for Oscar, who was in mid-air and had his boots up compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who immediately was sent off in the 31' minute.

With 10 men it would have been thought to be guaranteed to be in favour of Chelsea, but Chelsea struggled to make anything occur offensively. An arguable penalty on a challenge from Edinson Cavani that clipped him to the ground in the box is later not called by Bjorn Kuipers, leaving Diego Costa furious. Cavani is not rewarded either, with him hitting the woodwork on what was an open goal for even an amateur player.

Furthermore, the bookings kept on with limited chances from both sides, including a nasty elbow from David Luiz towards Diego Costa, that continued verbally across the game. David Luiz, when the game seemed to be all Chelsea's at the end, scored a drilled header from a corner on his former club to send the match to extra time on away goals (2-2).

Chelsea immediately controlled possession of the ball in extra time, with Thiago Silva making a horrible challenge on Kurt Zouma where the hand seemed to hit the ball. Eden Hazard who has been Chelsea's main man from the penalty spot converts swiftly down the middle against Salvatore Sirigu.

Chelsea were left to defend heavily for the remaining time, with PSG pushing forward with crosses that showed the significance of Thibaut Courtois and his quality saves. Eventually,PSG after an illustrious save on a corner from Thibaut Courtois, capitalise from poor marking and once again Thiago Silva nets it in from over 12 yards out.

With only five minutes plus additional time to play, it was relatively easy for PSG to control the game, placing Gregory Van der Wiel on for Javier Pastore. Chelsea were then unable to gain possession, leaving an ironic ending with PSG advancing to the quarterfinals after falling to the same aggregate (3-3) to Chelsea last year in the UEFA Champions League.
