As the whistle went at Stamford Bridge on May 3rd, fans, and players alike erupted in celebration as Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions for the 4th time, their 1st triumph in five years.

Top since August, the Blues were always title favourites and a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace thanks to Eden Hazard's header sealed the deal.

The summer signings of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa proved pivotal as both were two of Chelsea's most important players over the course of the season. The first half of the season saw Jose Mourinho's side play some breathtaking football, including a 6-3 win over Everton in arguably the match of the season.

The Blues steam rolled through opposition, going unbeaten until a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in early December but that would not affect Jose Mourinho's men. Chelsea continued to hold firm against the top sides, not allowing themselves to be beaten until perhaps the biggest turning point in Chelsea's season.

On New Years Day, Jose Mourinho's men suffered a shocking 5-3 defeat to fierce rivals Tottenham and the gap between 1st and 2nd began to close. This turned out to trigger a huge response from the Champions as they dominated Swansea City 5-0 in their best performance of the campaign, without a doubt. Chelsea, including the win at Swansea, would embark on a 15-match unbeaten run since that loss at White Hart Lane. As the title edged closer to Stamford Bridge, Mourinho steered away from the fast-paced attacking football of the first five months and concentrated on frustrating teams while grinding out nail-biting wins. Key draws against Manchester City and Arsenal, adding on to a 1-0 over Manchester United all but secured the inevitable, Chelsea as Champions of England. A 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on May 3rd secured Chelsea's 4th Premier League trophy, their 3rd under Jose Mourinho.

Standout performers were aplenty and among them were: Diego Costa, scorer of 19 Premier League goals, struggled for fitness towards the end but was instrumental to say the least. Cesc Fabregas, the assist leader in the league, was outstanding in the first five months and despite a slight blip in February, the former Arsenal captain finished strong. Eden Hazard, the PFA Player of the Year and Chelsea's best player was world class to say the least. The Belgian claimed the praise of players, fans and managers from all over and had his fingerprints on almost every game.

John Terry, the stalwart in Chelsea backline for the past decade, continued to show his quality by playing every minute of the title-winning campaign. Nemanja Matic, in some people's views, was Chelsea's most important player this season and showed how important a strong holding midfielder can be. Every player should be praised for their efforts this season and rightly so.

With three games left, Chelsea will have to wait until the final day to lift the trophy but for now we know, Chelsea are Champions.
