Newly crowned Premier League champions Chelsea are reported to be plotting a £20million bid for Everton right-back Seamus Coleman.

The 26-year-old who has made 148 appearances since his £60,000 move from Irish side Sligo Rovers in 2009 is currently under contract at Goodison Park until 2019.

He is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the league and since last season, no defender has scored more goals finding the back of the net nine times.

However manager Roberto Martinez believes Coleman’s future is on Merseyside.

He said: "I still think Seamus Coleman can develop and progress with Everton. At the moment he is enjoying his football, I think he has an important role in our side and I think this is the best place for him to develop and fulfil his potential.

"He is a world-class footballer in the way he performed last season."

Despite that, reports have suggested that the Spaniard is already preparing for life without the Irish international as they are believed to be tracking Barcelona’s Martin Montoya and Rochdale’s Rhys Bennet as his potential replacements.

Mourinho isn’t the only admirer of the defender with Manchester United been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the last 12 months.
