The Englishman greatly impressed last season, scoring 19 goals for Middlesbrough as they fell just short of promotion to the Premier League. The 21-year old also won Championship Player of the Year, catching the eye of multiple Premier League clubs in need of a striker. Bamford has also enjoyed successful loan spells with Derby County in the Championship and MK Dons in League One.

Bamford gives his thoughts on the new deal

Bamford told the Chelsea website: "I’m delighted to sign a new contract with Chelsea. My dream has always been to be part of this club for the long term."

He went on to say that the club have been "fantastic with my [Bamford's] development." Bamford joined Chelsea in 2012 and has enjoyed pre-season with the first team but has yet to appear in a competitive game for the Blues. A successful Premier League loan for the striker may change his fortunes in the future.

The England U-21 international will join Crystal Palace on a season-long loan, saying, "Joining Crystal Palace for this season on loan is the next step for me in my career." He will have his first taste of top-flight action with Alan Pardew's side and may be included for the first game of the season as Crystal Palace face a trip to Norwich.

The future is bright for Patrick Bamford and the Premier League is just the next step as he continues to score for fun at every club he joins on loan.
