Chelsea will try to make the most of their last pre-season friendly in the International Champions Cup, after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.

On the other hand, Fiorentina will enter this match confident after their surprising 2-1 win over FC Barcelona on Sunday and will be looking for a similar victory in their first ever match against the Blues in any format.

Pre-season Blues

Chelsea started out their preseason with a 4-2 loss to MLS side New York Red Bulls. The Blues were leading 2-0 by halftime but fell apart in the second half, allowing the Red Bulls to come back and score double the goals their opponents had.

Chelsea played better against Paris Saint-Germain, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw with goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Victor Moses. A few days later, Chelsea won on penalties again against Barcelona. Eden Hazard scored a sensational goal after dribbling through defenders, and the Blues looked much better than they had in their first preseason match.

However, defeat to longstanding London rivals Arsenal on Sunday revealed how rusty Jose Mourinho's side is. The players had trouble linking up with each other and making things happen in their attacking third, and Arsene Wenger's side punished their lack of cohesion.

Mourinho will be eager to get his regular starters, including Diego Costa and his problematic hamstring, more minutes in this match in the hopes of getting them back in shape ahead of the start of the Premier League season on Saturday.

Chelsea will begin the season facing Swansea City at home before travelling to meet Manchester City for their second game. The Blues will want to have their best form right away against title rivals Manchester City, and therefore they'll be looking to find that form against Fiorentina.

Fiorentina's take

Fiorentina were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain 4-2 in their first International Champions Cup match of the summer, but they won against Benfica on penalties.

Then, Paulo Sousa led Fiorentina to a significant victory over Barcelona in his first home game as manager of the Serie A club, bolstering the team's hopes of league success.

Fiorentina have finished fourth for three consecutive seasons in Serie A under Vincenzo Montella, but that was not enough for the club, and he was replaced by Sousa. The new manager's goal is to lead the side to the top three next season, and considering their competition are Juventus, Roma, and Napoli, that will not be an easy feat.

A victory against the Premier League champions following a victory against the European champions would be very impressive for the Italian club. and might indicate that Sousa will be successful in his quest to break into the top three.

Expectations

Costa missed Chelsea's loss in the Community Shield due to hamstring concerns and might not be totally fit for this match. Nevertheless, Mourinho will want to give his star striker a chance to regain his fitness in time to play in the regular season, so he will likely be coming off the bench later on in the match and Radamel Falcao will start.

Mourinho will also likely give Asmir Begovic another chance to settle in goal after impressive displays from Thibaut Courtois against PSG and Barcelona. Hazard, Willian, Oscar, and Cesc Fabregas will all likely return to the midfield, while Kurt Zouma may be given another chance in the left or the centre of defence.

Federico Bernardeschi will most likely start for Fiorentina after scoring both goals to seal his team's win against Barcelona. Guiseppe Rossi is still recovering from injury and is expected to come off the bench.

In addition, Mario Suarez could make his first start for Fiorentina against the Blues.
