Chelsea have announced that their manager Jose Mourinho has signed agreed a new four year deal with the club.

Fan favorite Mourinho will now be the super happy one as he begins his season with a positive before a ball is even kicked, putting pen to paper on his new four year contract extension.

The 52 year-old will now remain with the club until a minimum of 2019, news that will certainly make Chelsea fans happy as the new season begins. It seems that finally the Blues may have found the stability that both fans and players have been hoping for ever since chairman Roman Abramovich took over the club.

Why keep him?

It appears that the decision was a simple and easy one for both sides of the deal, Mourinho has brought Chelsea the Premier League that they so desperately sought for, whilst Chelsea provided him with the financial requirements.

Ever since the self entitled Special One returned two years ago, he has successfully turned what was an ageing team, into a young squad that can, and will continue to improve with time.

A feat that club director Marina Granovskaia has noticed, when speaking to the clubs website she said, "he has carefully developed the playing squad and brought trophies to Stamford Bridge."

Jose may not have been able to capture silverware in his first season, he certainly laid the ground work for what was a dominant second year. One which saw Chelsea finish with the Capital One Cup and the Premier League title to add to the trophy cabinet.

Whilst he may at times be controversial in his actions and statements, he does have the statistics to back himself up. Boasting the best win rate percentage of any manager in the league's history at  70%, he certainly knows what it takes to get the results required.

His previous run with Chelsea (2004-2007) helped them become the European behemoths they currently are, and also saw ginormous success in terms of trophies bringing in; two league titles, and two FA and League Cups.

It is clear as to why Ambramovich would want to extend his contract and ensure that one of the worlds greatest managers remains at his club.

Happy stay

When Mourinho returned to Chelsea he proclaimed himself to be 'the happy one' and it appears that nothing has changed in that aspect, with this new contract extension, Mourinho looks to settle down long term for the first time in his career.

His love for the London club has always been common knowledge and is something he acknowledged to the club website saying, "It is the club closest to my heart."

With his love for the team and his recent success there is not much for Mourinho to complain about, and he is certainly excited about the future, " I hope we can enjoy more success in the future, for the fans, the players and the club."

Will the success continue?

Even though the contract has been signed and, on paper, Mourinho will be with Chelsea for several more years, history shows it is not always the case.

Neither the Portuguese manager or the club are known for their long term relationships. Chelsea have operated a revolving door policy ever since the Claudio Ranieri era came to an end, seeing nine managers (including both Mourinho spells) be in charge of the club since.

On the other side of the coin, Mourinho is well known for having success, hitting his and his clubs targets and then moving on to pastures new. Three seasons is currently the maximum length of stay at any club during his managerial career.

Mourinho's time at Real Madrid came to an end at the end of the 2012-13 season, it was only one year prior to this he signed a contract maintaining him at the Spanish giants until 2016.

Love him or loath him, it can not be argued that Chelsea will be a stronger side with him as their manager for the extended future, but questions will linger in the minds of most, will this deal actually last? Can Mourinho and Chelsea co-exist and create the long term deal that both parties claim they want?

Only time will tell, but for now it can only be seen as a positive.
