Few would have thought this time last season  a match between Chelsea and Manchester United would have such little significance on a Premier League title race

However, but with both sides in inconsistent form and struggling to get a run of wins going, that is exactly the case.

Louis van Gaal is still under the microscope of the Reds' faithful, who analyse his every move, whilst Chelsea are without a long-term manager in their dugout. Guus Hiddink only signed on until the end of the season and it's likely that neither man will be around to manage this fixture again next season.

But that doesn't make the game any less important. In fact, given the current situation both sides see themselves in, a tussle between the two teams has perhaps never meant more with both desperate for points and a much needed confidence boost.

Chelsea and United are looking to prove that they can still beat the so-called 'big' clubs. The hosts will have to do it without three of their strikers, however.

Fitness report

With the Blues having faced Watford mid-week, Hiddink was questioned about the fitness of his side during his weekly press conference.

It seems that his main issues lie in the striking department, with Radamel Falcao, Loic Remy and Alexandre Pato all unavailable for this weekend, although he did confirm that "Remy will be involved next week".

Whilst it isn't a huge surprise to see that Falcao - who was left out of the club's Champions League squad this week - and Remy unavailable, most fans had hoped they would finally get to see new signing, Pato, in action for the club, or at least take a space on the bench.

However, that isn't going to be the case as he "needs more physical fitness at the moment" and Hiddink doesn't want to risk "injury in this tough league". He admitted that Pato will not be used in the "upcoming few games", meaning Chelsea fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Brazilian in blue.

Pato is currently being put through extra training sessions as he is in "his pre-season", according to the Chelsea manager. The Dutchman has created a training plan specifically tailored to him, which will hopefully speed up the process of him getting on the pitch.

There is good news for the club, though as Pedro - who was unavailable for the draw with Watford - should be back for the clash with United. He took part in training and the issues with his groin seemed to be fine, and Hiddink doesn't think there will be "big problems".

Focus on the players

Hiddink was keen for people not to place too much emphasis and focus upon the men in the dugout, as he believes that people must not "overvalue" the role of managers and coaches as they simply "prepare the games" and nothing else.

He wanted the attention to be on the players, as they have to "execute" the plans that have been made leading up the match; once they cross the white line it is ultimately down to them to get the result.

The Dutchman is aware that this game is a case of two teams hoping to "get back on track" after dreadful campaigns.

The two teams, who won nine of the last 11 Premier League titles, have drastically gone off the boil but Hiddink is confident that Chelsea are "more stable". He hopes to add "some more victories", starting with Manchester United on Sunday.
